Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and material science for analysis, design manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.

The objectives of the Mechanical Engineering Program are ensured by educating graduates to be responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of machines and systems of machines; and enhancing the students’ communication, social, and management skills. The graduates of the program are expected to develop skills, knowledge, and behaviors that support the objectives of the program.

The Mechanical Engineering Program is to educate graduates who will be ethical, productive, and contributing members of society and who will be able to use their strong foundation in the core fundamentals of mechanical engineering, basic science and mathematics in their future careers. Students can communicate effectively in oral, written and electronic media and have the necessary teamwork and leadership skills to work and participate effectively in a team environment. They are technically competent in their mechanical engineering knowledge and skills in professional or advanced academic settings, and committed to the engineering profession and to expanding their knowledge and skills set with increasing independence and responsibility.

The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Program (MENG) strives to offer the highest quality in engineering education so that graduates are prepared to create, plan, research, supervise, analyze, and generally act as the professionals of mechanical technology that are competing in today’s job market.
To keep the MENG curricula and pedagogy up-to-date, the department launched a regular assessment and articulation process to identify the needs and evaluate the program outcomes. The department encourages contribution in workshops, conferences, and seminars that are relevant to its curricular and pedagogical needs and that are likely to lead to appropriate change.

The school provides laboratory environment that is attractive, serviceable, and promotes a sense of community among students in conjunction with guaranteeing that the sate of the art laboratory facilities are functional, available, and accessible to the students.

At present, the department offers the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering

Domain of Work

Mechanical  engineers   are  responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of machines and  systems of machines. They  create, plan, research,  supervise, analyze, and generally act as the professionals of  mechanical technology. Their   knowledge and skills are needed  in many industries, such as: heating, ventilating,  and air conditioning; transportation, power generation and distribution, metal production and processing;  manufacturing; chemical and electrical equipments, designing  of  machines  and  structures  including  the   exploration of  their  Noise,  Vibration,  and Harshness (NVH).
