Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and material science for analysis, design manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.

Mission

The mission of the Mechanical Engineering program is to offer the highest quality in engineering education so that graduates from the program are fully prepared to create, plan, research, supervise, analyze, and generally act as professionals of mechanical technology to compete in today’s job market.

The objectives of the Mechanical Engineering program are ensured by educating graduates to be responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of machines and systems of machines and by enhancing the students’ communication, social, and management skills. The graduates of the program are expected to develop skills, knowledge, and behaviors that support the objectives of the program.

Future graduates

The Mechanical Engineering program educates graduates who will be ethical, productive, and contributing members of the society and who will be able to use their strong foundation in the core fundamentals of mechanical engineering, basic science, and mathematics in their future careers. Students will be able to communicate effectively in oral, written ,and electronic media and have the necessary teamwork and leadership skills to work and participate effectively in a team environment. They will also be technically competent in their mechanical engineering knowledge and skills in professional or advanced academic settings and committed to the engineering profession and to expanding their knowledge and skills with high level of independence and responsibility.

Research

The department encourages contribution to workshops, conferences, and seminars that are relevant to its curricular and pedagogical needs which are likely to lead to appropriate change.

Potential Fields of Work

Mechanical  engineers   are  responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of machines and  systems of machines. They  create, plan, research,  supervise, analyze, and generally act as the professionals of  mechanical technology. Their knowledge and skills are needed  in many industries such as: heating, ventilating,  and air conditioning, transportation, power generation and distribution, metal production and processing,  manufacturing, chemical and electrical equipments, designing  of  machines  and  structures  including  the exploration of their Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH).
